About Cedar Seed Foundation
Cedar Seed Foundation, (CSF) is a youth led non-governmental, non-profit and non-sectarian membership based development organization established in 2011 with the mission of providing services that support persons with disabilities to participate in all aspects of life by mainstreaming their issues and concerns into national development agenda based on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. It was formally registered at CAC in 2013 with reg no 63008.
⦁ Cedar Seed Foundation Executive Director (Lois Auta) has met and got a handshake from President Obama, a hug from Michelle Obama in July 2014 and President Buhari in August 2015
⦁ Cedar Seed Foundation E.D was part of the special interest Group (Persons with Disabilities) on Vision 20:2020 in 2010
⦁ In December 2012, CSF has collaborated with Potters Gallery and convened an event in Abuja tagged VitalVoices for Democracy and it was supported by UNDP – DGD
⦁ In March 2013, CSF has donated 120 mobility aids to persons with disabilities in Kaduna State through the support of NNPC on the project called Easter Reach Out
⦁ In 2014, Cedar Seed Foundation was among the 100 youths President Goodluck selected and celebrated International Youth Day at the Aso Rock Presideential Villa.
⦁ May 2014 and July 2015 Sahara Foundation has reached out to hundreds of students with disabilties with scholarship awards initiated by CSF tagged Inclusive Education Project
⦁ In September 2014, US Embassy conducted musical training for 30 young persons with disabilities from ages 18 – 25, initiated by Cedar Seed Foundation and facilitated by Bobby Ricketts
⦁ In June and July 2014 the E.D of CSF was selected among 500 youths in Africa who traveled to the US for six weeks and participated on the flagship program of President Obama called Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders.
⦁ December 03, 2014 Cedar Seed Foundation in commemoration of International Day of Persons with Disabilities marked the day by an advocacy walk, radio talk show and a press conference, we talked about our issues, the theme for the year and demanded President Goodluck to sign our bill into law. Media team, our team members and friends of the disabled were present and the event was aired on national news on major television channels in Nigeria. It was a huge success.
⦁ December 22, 2014 Cedar Seed Foundation organized Christmas Reach-Out with support from SaharaGroup distributed 50kgs of bags of rice to each beneficiary. More than 100 persons with disabilities in the FCT participated and benefited from the event, drawn from the six local government areas of the federal capital territory. Lives were touched!
⦁ In 2015 and 2016, we had ICT trainings supported by US Embassy and Nigerian Communications Commision in Abuja for our members.
⦁ In September 2015, CSF constructed a ramp for a special school in Karmajiji along airport road to create accessibility for the students on the project called Ramps for Schools
⦁ In December 03, 2015 we partnered with US Embassy Abuja and convened an event tagged Inclusion Matters: The Urgency for Nigerian Disability Rights Act at Ekiti Hall, US Embassy Abuja in commemoration of International Day for Persons with Disabilities where we had an opening remarks by US Ambassador, some Nigerian Senators and Members of House of Reps were present, Disabled People’s Organizations, CSOs, Media and other Critical Stakeholders were in attendance. This was one of the best event ever for CSF!
⦁ In January 2016, Central Bank of Nigeria and Abuja Enterprise Agency gave out loans under our entrepreneurship series to 30 members of CSF to existing and start – up businesses where we got about 4 Million Naira to empower persons with disabilities to become financial independent.
⦁ Cedar Seed Foundation trained 50 women with disabilities on ICT and the use of social media in February 2016 where we set up a Facebook page called – ThisAbled Women this idea was supported by Nigerian Communications Commission.
⦁ In March 2016, we had a documentary tagged GET INVOLVED with BBC Media Action and CSF Executive Director represented persons with disabilities
In May 31, 2016 Cedar Seed Foundation in Collaboration with Mandela Washington FellowshipAlumni Association Nigeria and support from US Embassy, Abuja trained youths with disabilities in entrepreneurship skills at American Corner
⦁ In June 02, 2016 Cedar Seed Foundation Team represented disabled people on the national emergency management agency programme where we discussed about inclusive safety measures.
⦁ In July 01, 2016 Cedar Seed Foundation participated in Start-up Friday and pitched to the audience on Ability Backpacks which is all about solar powered schoolbags for students in the rural areas organized by Office for ICT Innovation and Entrepreneurship – OIIE in Abuja.
⦁ Ashoka enrolled Cedar Seed Foundation among 41 Nigerians as Ashoka Changemakers Scholars in July 2016 in Lagos State.
⦁ Cedar Seed Foundation was shortlisted among the Aso Villa Demo Day finalists(Number 18) on the list and invited to the office of the Nigeria President where the ED got a handshake from President Buhari, Vice President Prof Osinbajo, Federal Minisiters, the CEO of Facebook Mark Zukerberg and other great men and women at Aso Rock Presidential Villa on September 02, 2016. This was an amazing and memorable experience for us at CSF. The news and photos went viral.
A wonderful serenity has taken possession of my entire soul, like these sweet mornings of spring which I enjoy with my whole heart. I am alone, and feel the charm of existence in this spot, which was created for the bliss of souls.
